Jesus’ parable presents before our eyes the image of this world, where a small group of people are swimming in riches and a large multitude are suffering from poverty and indifference. The reversal of the situation in the future life is a prophetic promise to awaken the consciences of the rich, and at the same time to assure everyone that God is not indifferent to this situation and that His justice will prevail. But we must not forget that in God’s plan of salvation, nothing happens suddenly. The Lord through the prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah, through the Church calls us to conversion. His salvation is for everyone and no one is forgotten by Him. As God remembers us, so we have to remember others. To be for them a sign of saving God and to see His presence in them. God blesses those who come to the aid of the poor and rejects those who turn away from them. Jesus became poor to make us partakers of God’s riches for ever. Let us ask for the wisdom to follow Him.
